How Long Does a Warmlite Tent Last?

By Jessica Cunningham

Warmlite prides itself in the longevity of its products, we tell customers that once they buy a tent or sleeping bag it will likely last their whole life. Or many faithful years for the long-term adventurer (many months of continuous use each year). This is all well and good, but how do we know that? How do we know our gear can go anywhere you want to take it? From customer stories, just like this.

Bob Hartman from San Diego, California sent in his tent of over 50 years (purchased in the 1970’s). He took his tent all over North America and although he and his tent were ready for retirement, he couldn’t bring himself to throw his trusty camping shelter away. He sent it to us as a memento of times past and as a testimony of it’s longevity.

The Letter:

His letter reads as follows:

I am returning this old tent as I don’t have it in me to just put it in the trash. I’m not sure when I purchased it but I do know the catalog was self-published and featured nudes and a super cub landing on a beach in Mexico. [This dates the purchase to sometime in the 1970’s]

I used it for many years as a trip leader for the Sierra Club. It’s been in Baja – the Sierra Nevada’s, southern Utah – British Columbia’s coast range on a mountaineering expedition and throughout Alaska.

So you all can have a look and see if any of it can be salvaged and used again. I believe it has seen it’s last campsite. Perhaps the poles can be used in the event someone needs them – glad you are continuing to produce the tent. It’s a superb design and function.

All the best,

Bob Hartman, San Diego, CA

Thank you Bob for sharing your story with us and the rest of our amazing customers. On long trips our tents become like friends, and the hours spent in and around them give them a special place in our hearts. We are so honored to have been able to help you on your expeditions with the Sierra Club and for the countless stories and experiences you have no doubt had from such wonderful adventures.
