The Many Uses of Rain Gear

When we hear the term rain gear, we often think of it being bought and used in situations like rain when hiking. Which, would make sense given the name. But it is also misleading. Rain gear has a wide variety of uses and situations in which it can be used. There are many different types of rain gear, and they all have their pros and cons. It is best to do research on the exact type of situations and climates you will be dealing with to decide which type of rain gear will serve you best. Let’s explore some common and uncommon uses of rain gear.
- Around Camp
- Kayaking or Canoeing
- Horseback Riding
- Dog Walking
- During all 4 seasons
A rain jacket or other rain gear is not exclusive to summer time. They can be used to repel rain, snow, and wind. Rain gear can make the perfect outer layer to keep the biting wind from driving through your clothes. It is not uncommon to don a rain jacket or rain pants simply to keep the wind off.
Some people use neutral colors so that they blend in with their surroundings, such as photographers. But many others use bright, vibrant colors so that they stand out. To make them easier to spot over long distances for both benign reasons, and situations that may involve Search and Rescue.
Rain Ponchos can be used as such, but they can also be stretched out to create a makeshift tent or covering in emergency situations. Carry one item that fulfills 2-3 uses and purposes.
Even when rain isn’t on the forecast, it is best to always carry rain gear just in case the weather should turn on you. For these situations, we suggest gear that is both very lightweight and extremely durable.
